Tale - Fly You To The Moon

Tonight I had a glimpse at fruits of my labor! I have completed five characters, three mini-environment sets and I'm slowly putting them together. What better way to Fly - You - To The Moon?

Tale - Environments

The new area design assets are fully interactive - which means you squash them, stretch them, bend them and take them apart down to the last brick! You can manipulate components at all levels individually or you can flex an entire asset (you can wobble the entire tower while spinning the mill for instance) - think animator friendly!

I also decided that textures ought to remain plain and simple in order to keep an asset from getting overly complex and in this way unintentionally distract the eye. There's naturally another reason behind keeping the design simple - I wouldn't be able to fly The Dragon through the tower to make The Knight homeless without having to fracture the wall and the roof with roof shingles and bricks exploding in all directions...without simulating the fracture and without...without... without....things which would most likely suit a big Hollywood production like Independence Day but not a cartoon!

Tale - Homesteads

After weeks of prototyping, testing and a careful consideration I decided to design a fully fledged, three dimensional environments instead of 2.5D. The environment will hopefully be pleasing to the eye and consistent with the rest of the project. Following concept art should give you a glimpse of assets the characters can fully interact with. Can you tell which abode belongs to which character? Let me give you a hint: dragons are fond of wind and knights enjoy walled cities.
